This document will instruct you how to connect your PC with a modem to the College of Food Agricultural and Environmental Sciences network.

Step 1
Using your mouse, point at "My Computer" and click twice with the left mouse button.
Step 2
You will be presented with a open folder containing icons representing each of the drives installed on your computer as well as ones for "Printers", the "Control Panel", "Dial Up Networking" and "Scheduled Tasks". Point to the icon labeled "Dial Up Networking" and double left button click on it.
Step 3
The "Dial Up Networking" icon will open presenting an open folder which contains an object labeled "Make New Connection". Double left mouse click on this object.
Step 4
You have just started the Make New Connection Wizard and it will have several dialog boxes that you will fill in to complete the creation of a new "Dial Up Network Connection".
A: The first entry is a word or phrase you wish to use to label this new dial up connection. Anything with significance for you can be used; such as "OSU Ag. Network".
B: The next entry selects your modem and it should already be filled in with the name of the modem that is installed on your computer.
C: Pressing the "Next" button moves to the next page where you must fill in the phone number for the new connection. There are two phone numbers that are used. If you live in the Columbus area and can access area code 614 as a local phone call use 292-1736. If you are making calls from outside the 614 area code, you will enter your county's private toll free number. That number can be provided by your District support person or County office personnel depending on your particular County policy. Suppose the number is 123-456-7890. The number can be split putting 123 as the area code and 456-7890 for telephone number or by putting 123-456-7890 in the box labeled "Telephone Number". Either way will work and the dashes (-) can be omitted.
D: Country or region code should already have an entry for "United States of America (1)" and should not be changed. The County toll free numbers can be used from anywhere in the continental United States.
E: Pressing the "Next" button advances to the last page and informs you that you have successfully created a new "Dial Up Networking connection".
F: Use your mouse to press the "Finish" button to conclude this process.
Step 5
The Wizard disappears upon pressing the "Finish" button returning you to the open folder labeled "Dial Up Networking". The new "Dial Up Network Connection" is in this folder but may not be visible. If it is not visible you will need to move the horizontal and/or vertical scroll bars in order to find it. Double clicking your mouse while pointing at this new object will start the connection process and bringing up a dialog box that must be completed. Only two boxes need to be filled in "User name:" and "Password:". Fill these boxes using your e‑mail account name and the password used to retrieve the mail from this e‑mail account. For example: Although your name is James Bond you use your e‑mail account name, bond007 and the password for that account (this is the secret part; don't pass this around: m001benz). Press the "Connect" button and wait for the connection to be completed.
